It was a warm and rainy evening at Pilot Field. The wet weather contributed to numerous miscues on the field by both the Rams of Texas Wesleyan and the Pilots.

The rain pushed back the initial start time of Game 1 of the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament at Pilot Field from 7:30 to 8:30 and then when the weather would not cooperate, the first pitch was moved to 9:15.

In this contest, the Pilots were the road team.

By that time, more that half of the crowd had already left.

But, those who remained were in for a topsy-turvy match.

There was no scoring in the early innings. But, in the top of the 4th inning the Pilots were able to get on the board first.

Catcher Reed Lavallee hit a single to right field to send home a run, which made the score 1-0.

The very next inning outfielder Brandon Cooksey tripled to right, with two out and with a 2-2 count, to send home two runs. The score after five innings was 3-0.

In the bottom of the 5th inning, the Rams managed to put five runs on the board to lead LSUS by a score of 5-3.

The Pilots chipped away at the sudden deficit the very next inning, in the top of the 6th when LSUS sent a runner home to make it 5-4.

Texas Wesleyan answered back with a run of their own in the bottom of the 6th, to add to their lead, 6-4.

The Pilots scored in the top of the 7th and 8th innings. In the 8th, first baseball Kyle Pearson hit a pop fly to left to allow the runner to tag and get home safely. That play tied the game at 6 apiece.

The Rams re-took the lead in the bottom of the 8th to lead 7-6.

But, late inning heroics allowed the Pilots to tie the game at 7-7 in the top of the 9th inning.

But, the game got away in the bottom of the 10th inning when Pilots relief pitcher Ben Suit threw a wild pitch with the bases loaded full of Rams to allow the runner at 3rd base to come home.

The Pilots lose a heart breaker at Pilot Field 8-7 in 10 innings.

Notable statistics from the game were the Rams committing a total of 10 errors on the night, and the Pilots stranding 13 runners on base in the contest.

Starting pitcher Rory Young was only able to complete 6 innings after giving up six runs on eight hits and throwing 130 pitches.

Pitcher Ben Suit gets his first loss of the season.

The contest ended at 1:35 a.m.

The Pilots face elimination later this afternoon at 3 when they will take on No. 3 seeded Northwood University at Pilot Field.
