5 Teams Stephen Strasburg Could Potentially Sign With
2019 was a great year for Washington Nationals starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg. For the first time in almost his whole career, Strasburg was healthy the entire year and didn't have to battle through injuries.
Strasburg finished with a career-high 18 wins in 2019, along with just 6 losses and a 3.32 ERA in 33 games started for the Nationals. He also had a postseason to remember for the Nationals during their run to the World Series
In the 2019 postseason, Strasburg compiled a perfect 5-0 record with a 1.98 ERA leading the Nationals to their first World Series in team history.
In the days after their World Series victory, Strasburg announced that he would be opting out of his contract with the Nationals and would become a free agent. With free agency now in full swing, here are 5 teams that I could see Stephen Strasburg signing with.
- 1
Washington Nationals
The Nationals could potentially lose two of their best players this offseason in Strasburg and 3B Anthony Rendon. If the Nationals want to contend next year for another World Series title they have to re-sign one of the two. My vote is they will value their World Series MVP just a little more than Rendon. Expect the Nationals to give in to the demands of Strasburg and pay him a ton of money to stay with the team.

San Diego Padres
The San Diego Padres could very well be in play even after the splash they made last season when they signed Manny Machado to a 10-year $300 million contract. Lets also not forget that Strasburg is from the Southern California area went to school at San Diego St. University. The Padres have a lot of good, young pitching talent but they don't have an ace. If Strasburg signs with them, they'll have their ace.

New York Yankees
The Yankees need starting pitching, anything less would spark a full-on riot in the fan base. GM Brian Cashman has already said that he would speak to agent Scott Boras about his two clients (Strasburg & Gerrit Cole). I have a feeling the Yankees would prefer to land Cole but with Strasburg stringing together one of the best postseason pitching performances in recent history, the Yankees might just surprise and land their starting pitcher.

Philadelphia Phillies
Could Strasburg follow in the footsteps of his former teammate Bryce Harper and leave the Nationals for the Phillies? One of the weakest parts of the Phillies last season was their starting pitching. Aaron Nola took a step back last season but he is still a stud. Add Strasburg to that rotation and you could have a dangerous team in the NL that could contend for the title.

Texas Rangers
Do I think the Rangers will actually sign Stephen Strasburg? No. However, with the Rangers set to open up their new ballpark in 2020, I think they will be one of the more surprising teams that will be in on Strasburg, among the other big names.
