What's new in the world of Louisiana sports?

A community will come together to honor longtime coach Richard Lary later this morning at 10am, at Calvary Baptist Church. Lary who passed away from a heart attack last Saturday, was 49 years old.

 

Last night in the LHSAA baseball playoffs Byrd eliminates Airline 8-6. The Jackets scored four first inning runs off of soon to be Ole Miss signee Andrew Lowe. After Airline’s Peyton Davis and Peyton Coker each scored an RBI in the bottom of the first, Byrd’s Chance Cole sent a two run shot over the left field fence to extend the Jackets’ lead 6-2. In the third, Airline’s Cameron Taylor hit an inside-the-park home run, scoring Tanner Daniel and himself, to make it 6-4. Andrew Suggs, had eight strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings to help Byrd defeat Airline. Byrd now hosts No. 27 seed Central for a best-of three game series at The Hive.

 

LSUS signee Nathan Jones helps Loyola eliminate Beau Chene 8-2. Jones, struck out six in a complete game. The Flyers will now travel to face No. 1 seed in 4A, Tioga on Friday in a three game series.

 

Benton stops the Rayne, blanking them 10-0. Tanner Craft, 2-for-3 at the plate, and pitched a complete game for Benton.

 

North DeSoto beats Eunice 3-1. Matt Ramsey helping his own cause, picked up the win on the mound, and went 3-for-4 at the plate.

 

Live Oak defeats Haughton 10-3. Destrehan defeats Shreve 12-2. Neville defeats Northwood 7-1. Lutcher ends Minden’s season 7-3.

 

3A play begins next week, with best-of three game series’. When Evangel plays next week, they’ll be No. 1, when they host No. 32 seed Lusher. In Class 2A, Todd Walker’s No. 10 seeded Calvary Cavaliers hosts No. 23 seed DeQunicy.
