May 14th, 2018 was one of the greatest days in Shreveport Mudbugs Hockey history.

That's certainly saying something, considering the vast amount of history owned by the 'Bugs. Don't believe me? Take a trip to George's Pond and look up in the rafters. I'm not sure they could possibly fit any more championship banners.

The team first arrived in Shreveport-Bossier in 1997, playing at the historic Hirsch Colesium. It didn't take long for the community to fall in love and rally behind the boys. Just three years later the team and it's fans had outgrown the Hirsch, and moved over to the brand-spanking-new CenturyTel Center. In 2011, The Mudbugs closed up shop, and just like that, the 'Bugs were gone.

The Mudbugs were the last remaining organization from our town's big three. The Battlewings and the Captains both ceased operations shortly before the 'Bugs.

However, just four years later, Tommy Scott and a core group of investors announced the return of the Shreveport Mudbugs. They came back to their roots, in the newly-renovated George's Pond at Hirsch Colesium and they didn't waste any time bringing their winning ways back to town.

In their first season with the NAHL, our expansion team did the unthinkable by making the playoffs out of the South division. Then, in just their second season in the league, the Shreveport Mudbugs not only made it to the Robertson Cup Championship, but they won the whole thing.

On May 14th, 2018, the Shreveport Mudbugs defeated the Minot Minotaurs in a winner-take-all championship game. The game itself was exhilarating from start to finish, everything you would want a championship game to be.
