Operation Santa Claus kicked off at 10 o'clock this morning at Townsquare Media at 6341  Westport Ave. in Shreveport.  It's a combined effort between the Shreveport Fire Department, the Shreveport Police Department, Bossier Sheriff's Department and Townsquare Media's six radio stations.

It's all about providing local less fortunate kids with new toys for Christmas.  Santa rode in on his big red fire truck while being escorted by local law officers as he brought goodies to the children.

The kids were escorted to the Operation Santa Claus office, where officers handed out toys to some really excited children.  And this was only the beginning to the gift-giving season of benevolence.

Hundreds of other needy kids who have been targeted by officers, firefighters and deputies for gifts, will get them later in December.

In fact,  our first Operation Santa Claus remote is this Thursday at Boomtown Casino from 7-9 am.  We'll be at Maddox and Hughes Insurance  at 401 Hamilton Road Dec. 6th; Geauxcicles at 3970 Youree Drive on Dec. 8th,; and Dec. 13th, Townsquare Media personalities will be collecting your gift and monetary donations at The Joint, The Chiropractic Place at 6658 Youree Drive.

The Barney Cannon Smile Run is being held Dec. 15th. That's when officers, firefighters and radio personalities from Townsquare Media will visit children at two hospitals bearing gifts.  We'll deliver gifts at Shriner's Hospital at 9:30 that morning and at Schumpert Sutton's Children's Hospital at 11 am.

Operation Santa Claus has been putting smiles on children's faces since 1984.  Join us again this year in making a Merry Christmas for so many local less fortunate children.
