The twisters ripped through six states killing at least 281 people — 195 in Alabama alone — in the deadliest outbreak of tornadoes in almost 40 years.

This is one of the best stories I have ever seen covering the Louisiana Hayride, Elvis Presley, Frank Page, James Burton and KWKH. The Louisiana Hayride, was a live concert held each week at the Municipal Auditorium in Shreveport, Louisiana and was heard on KWKH. In 1954, legendary radio announcer Frank Page introduced Elvis Presley.

Wednesday night, Scotty McCreery sang the National Anthem at the first game of the World Series. Last night he was followed by our friend and country superstar from Sarepta, La, Trace Adkins, who did an excellent performance of the song before Game 2 between the Texas Rangers and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Some of the fondest memories of my childhood, growing up in the Village of Martin, Louisiana, were visits to Kitchings’ Grocery.

Nehi Red in a glass bottle, candy cigarettes, Chocolate Soldiers, and a Phillips 66 sign are all etched in my mind. None are so vivid, though, as a cardboard Barlow pocketknife display perched on the top shelf behind the counter.

The explosion of color that blasts into the sky on the Riverfront makes the Fourth of July Fireworks in Shreveport extra special each year. So much color and so much snap, crackle and pop!

Second-ranked LSU will put the nation’s longest regular-season non-conference winning streak on the line tonight when the Tigers host Northwestern State at 7 p.m. in Tiger Stadium.

Actor Christopher “Chip” Mayer has died in Sherman Oaks, Calif., of natural causes. He was 57. Born George Charles Mayer, III, he was raised in Ridgewood, New Jersey and attended Colgate University.

KWKH radio announcer Frank Page introduced Elvis on his first radio broadcast from the Louisiana Hayride inside Shreveport, Louisiana’s Municiple Auditorium.

Hank Williams Jr. appeared on ‘Fox and Friends’ on Monday and compared a golf match between President Obama and House Speaker John Boehner, to “Hitler playing golf with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.” This set off lots of controversy.
