Tim Fletcher: World Series Almost Set
The World Series is nearly set---both Kansas City and New York can wrap up their respective league championship series today.
The Royals blasted Toronto in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series, 14-2 Tuesday. Kansas City scored four runs in the first, an ALCS record with two scoring on Ben Zobrist's homer, and never looked back to take a 3-1 lead in the best of seven series. A KC win today would punch the Royals ticket to the World Series for the second straight year.
The Mets got another homer from Daniel Murphy and a fantastic performance from Jacob deGrom on the hill to subdue the Cubs 5-2 in game 3 of their NLCS in Wrigley Field last night. With a solo blast in the third inning, Murphy now has homered in a post-season record-tying five consecutive games. deGrom improved to 3-0 this post-season with seven innings of near dominant pitching, surrendering just two runs on four hits. The Mets can sweep the Cubs with a win today and claim the National League slot in the World Series.
