What's new in local sports?

The New Orleans Saints, retooling their defense, after being ranked second to last in the NFL in that category, have locked up defensive end Cameron Jordan until 2020! The Saints have given Jordan, who was set to be an unrestricted free agent after this season, $55 million, $26.8 million guaranteed! After signing the contract extension, Jordan tweeted “Way up!I feel blessed!Honestly couldn be more excited to be apart of WHODATNATION for the foreseeable future #whodat.” In five seasons he’s started in 63 games, with 119 tackles, five forced fumbles and 29 sacks.


I’ve got some good news and some bad news. Let’s start with the bad first. The Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission, who placed a bid to host the LHSAA powerlifting, tennis and cheerleading championships lost out to Monroe, where they’ll host all of the above championships for another two years. However, the good news! The Sports Commission won the bid to host the state wrestling championships in 2016 and 2017.


A pair of North Caddo Rebels are headed south! Tuesday, Rebels’ stud point guard Ka’davion Evans inked a scholarship offer to become a member of the ULL Ragin Cajuns basketball squad. Evans led North Caddo to the 2A state semifinals this past season, he averaged 26 points and seven rebounds a game.


North Caddo kicker Jhesus Vargas, who was diagnosed with testicular cancer last December 20th and had surgery 11 days later, is headed off to Louisiana College in Pineville, to play for former Evangel coach Dennis Dunn.


Former Louisiana Tech football coach Maxie Lambright is listed on the 2016 college football hall of fame ballot! Lambright coached Tech from 1967-1978, led the Bulldogs to three consecutive Division II national titles from 1972-1974.


The Rangers run the White Sox out of Arlington 15-2. It was The Joey Gallo Show! Gallo, who made his Major League debut, brought home 4 RBI. Gallo also hit his first major league homer to upper deck! The Rangers and Sox play tonight at 7:05
