‘The Voice’ Winner Jermaine Paul Speaks Highly of Coach Blake Shelton
On Tuesday night, Jermaine Paul was named ‘The Voice’ winner on the hit NBC show by the same name. Paul snagged the top spot on the show after making it to the final round, where he competed against three other contestants. Although his singing voice speaks for itself, Paul gives major props to coach and country music star Blake Shelton for the win.
“Blake is a good guy,” Paul said, according to Hollywood Reporter. “He’s a country boy and I respect him. I get him. I understand him. He’s like my friends back home and he reminds me a lot of myself. Yeah, we’re different genres from different places. But, he’s a man. And the fact that he kept me around? That’s all I could ever ask for him to do and he said, ‘The rest is up to you.’ And I think I did my job for him.”
Talk about bragging rights for the ‘Honeybee’ hitmaker! Paul even paid tribute to Shelton on Monday night, singing his own copy of ‘God Gave Me You.’ Shelton, of course, is mega-proud of his winning contestant and hasn’t stopped talking about the win yet.
“Awe…And we arrive to my favorite place,” he wrote to his Twitter followers. “The place where every doubter, critic, hater or simply the ignorers can officially kiss my a–!!”
When one of his more than 1.6 million followers asked where his favorite place is, Shelton responded, “The winners circle my thick headed slow friend… The winners circle…”
You might recall that Mr. Miranda Lambert predicted that Jermaine Paul would take the crown on ‘The Voice’ when he appeared on ‘The Tonight Show‘ just a few weeks ago (ironically, Paul got a chance to shine on the show after winning this week).
Shelton has been waiting for this moment all season, so it’s not surprising that he’s so overwhelmingly excited. “Blake happy is like Santa Claus, Easter Bunny, and Ronald McDonald in one,” Paul confirms of his coach’s enthusiasm. “He was so proud and so happy.”
