Texas Tech Baseball’s Huge Weekend Vaults Them Up the Rankings

The Red Raiders entered the weekend ranked 16th in the country according to D1baseball.com and were matched up in their Big 12 opener against the Texas Longhorns who started the weekend ranked 2nd in the Nation.

The Red Raiders beat the Longhorns in extra innings on Friday night using a great start from Big 12 newcomer of the week Andrew Morris and a walk-off steal from Kurt Wilson. If you missed the epic steal of home, here's an expert breakdown of the events in the bottom of the 10th inning.

On Saturday, the Red Raiders walked the Longhorns off again in the bottom of the 10th with a grand slam from, you guessed it, Kurt Wilson. The final on Saturday was 16-12 after one of the greatest college baseball games ever played.

The Sunday affair was of little consequence with the Red Raiders in control of the series, but the Longhorns did get a little semblance of revenge by run-ruling the Red Raiders in the series finale.

Texas Tech did get two of three though, which vaulted them to 7th in the country. Their first appearance in the top 10 this season in the D1baseball.com poll. The Longhorns also fell to 8th, just behind the Red Raiders. Oklahoma State baseball is just ahead of both at 6th. The final Big 12 team in the poll is TCU who slides in at 12th in the latest poll.

Texas Tech will now play a midweek series in Lubbock against Stephen F. Austin before playing the University of Kansas in Lawrence this weekend. If the Red Raiders can get the sweep of Kansas, they'll be in a great spot for the Big 12 regular-season title with huge road series against TCU and Oklahoma State still on the schedule.
