Texas Tech Baseball Enters Odd Promotion Hall of Fame

Baseball is known for crazy promotions. Quirky bobbleheads, t-shirts, mini bats and dollar hot dogs are normal things that get given away during baseball games across the land for fans to show up at games. That's not to say there aren't unusual gimmick promotions to some events.

For some reason in 2002 the Texas Rangers gave way rubber ducks made in the likeness of Rusty Greer. A minor league team once gave the first 1,000 fans to enter the stadium a picture of the owner's gallbladder. Teams have also given out toilet seats, plungers, and other bathroom-related items when their teams were flushing it down the drain.

The Hickory Crawdads wanted to stand out so they gave away a bobblehead of Noah. Yes, the biblical Noah. My favorite promotion ever started as a good idea. The Dodgers once gave away free baseballs to the fans that entered the game. After a couple of controversial ejections, most of the fans returned their baseballs to the umpire.

Texas Tech baseball now joins the pantheon of odd promotions with Vaccine night.

That's right free vaccines to anyone over the age of 18 at Friday's baseball game against TCU, provided you have a ticket.

The vaccine will be of the Johnson & Johnson variety and will be available on the 3rd base concourse from 5:30 pm until the end of the 3rd inning.

The Red Raiders are playing TCU this weekend in a pivotal series for not only the Big 12 title, but for the National seed that will be locked in early in May instead of the end of the season to allow teams to prepare their stadiums for COVID protocols. Texas Tech is taking that to the extreme by getting fans vaccinated. If they sweep TCU, they'll be in the driver's seat for hosting a Regional.
