Jason Isaacs Beams Up to ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ As Captain
Star Trek: Discovery will prove the first outing of the franchise without a Captain as its lead, but the Discovery’s ranking officer will nonetheless be a familiar face. Harry Potter and The OA star Jason Isaacs confirms his role in CBS’ Star Trek: Discovery, finding a nice comfy chair in the process.
Isaacs appeared to share the news early, tweeting the image of a Captain’s chair shortly before noon, as seen in the recent Discovery footage. The tweet was short-lived, though CBS now confirms Isaacs will play the Discovery’s Captain Lorca, senior officer to Lt. Commander Rainsford (Sonequa Martin-Green).
Now set for a late summer-early fall premiere, Star Trek: Discovery has among the cast Sonequa Martin-Green as our Lt. Commander lead, James Frain as Spock’s father Sarek, Doug Jones as an alien science officer, Adam Rapp as the TV franchise’s first openly-gay character and Michelle Yeoh as Captain of a different ship, along with assorted crew and several Klingon roles. Ex-showrunner Bryan Fuller also recently stepped up to clarify his limited involvement in the project going forward.
Shooting in Toronto, the new 13-episode Star Trek: Discovery is officially said to take place 10 years before Kirk’s original Enterprise mission, as well to be “heavily serialized,” akin to a novel. The new series will also explore the fallout of an event referenced, but never seen in the original series. Wrath of Khan director Nicholas Meyer has also joined alongside Gene Roddenberry’s son Rod, fan-favorite Voyager novel alum Kirsten Beyer, franchise vet Joe Menosky and Heroes writer Aron Coleite.
Star Trek: Discovery will continue further announcements of its crew, but how long until we have a premiere? Watch the production teaser below.
