Some Phrases Peta Wants Eliminated from Your Vocabulary

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) wants you to change how you speak. The animal rights group says phrases that describe harming animals should be banned.

PETA says these phrases can be compared to homophobic and racist language.

Here are some of the phrases PETA wants gone:

Beat a dead horse should be replaced with "feed a fed horse".

Kill two birds with one stone could be changed to  “feed two birds with one scone”.

Taking the bull by the horns is out. PETA wants you to use  "take the flower by the thorns".

Bring home the bacon is on the hit list too. You should try using "bringing home the bagels" instead.

And another: no more being the guinea pig.  The proposed alternative is “be the test tube".

The PETA statement says "Just as it became unacceptable to use racist, homophobic, or ableist language, phrases that trivialise cruelty to animals will vanish as more people begin to appreciate animals for who they are. Words matter, and as our understanding of social justice evolves, our language evolves along with it.”
