Shreveport Mudbugs Clinch Playoff Spot
A huge congratulations going out to our boys, the Shreveport Mudbugs!
Let's face it folks, if you're a hockey fan in Shreveport-Bossier, you've been spoiled by our Shreveport Mudbugs. Not just their current NAHL product, but dating all the way back to 1997. For over two decades, we've been spoiled by one of the winningest hockey teams in the history of the sport. From 1997-2011 the Mudbugs never once posted a losing record while playing in the WPHL and the CHL respectively.
Even more impressive, from 1997-2011, the Mudbugs only missed the playoffs once, and they missed that playoff spot by just a few points in 2002. From 1997 to 2011, the Mudbugs gave Shreveport-Bossier four league championships, winning in 1999, 2000, 2001, and their final season in 2011.
Then, as so many of you know, the Mudbugs ceased operation following their championship in 2011. Five years later, they triumphantly returned to Shreveport in the newly renovated George's Pond at Hirsch Coliseum in 2016. Naturally, in true Mudbugs hockey fashion, they wasted no time showing the NAHL what Mudbugs hockey is all about. In their 4 seasons in the NAHL, the Shreveport Mudbugs have made the playoffs each season. In just their second season in the NAHL, the Mudbugs were crowned the Robertson Cup champions, adding yet another prestigious and historic trophy to the trophy case.
It's worth pointing out that last season was cancelled due to the pandemic, but the Mudbugs were very much well on their way to clinching a playoff spot.
So let's get one thing straight. In two and a half decades of hockey in Shreveport-Bossier, the Mudbugs have failed to make the playoffs only once.
That, my friends, is Mudbugs hockey.
This past weekend, the Shreveport Mudbugs added another notch to that belt by clinching the first playoff spot from the NAHL's Southern division. They did so in dominating fashion, outscoring Wichita Falls 10-2 in the weekend sweep.
As anyone from the Mudbugs organization will tell you; their job is no done yet. Cheer on your Mudbugs for the remainder of the season as they attempt to bring home the Robertson Cup back to Shreveport where it belongs.
Their next slate of home games is scheduled for April 9th and 10th against the Odessa Jackalopes. The NAHL playoffs will kick off in May.
