Evangel Christian QB Peyton Houston Shines At LSU 7-on-7 Event
Shreveport football fans have kept a close eye on Evangel Christian Academy quarterback Peyton "Pop" Houston for the last few years. The top-ranked 2027 prospect has consistently dismantled opposing defenses across Louisiana since taking over the starting role. Now that he has fully committed to play at LSU, he is continuing to build on the reputation built by his on-field performance.
Houston led Evangel to the LHSAA state quarterfinals last season, with nearly 4,000 passing yards and 42 touchdowns. The highly recruited quarterback drew national media attention, and cemented himself as a premium recruit...he currently ranks among the top ten high school quarterbacks in the country.
Undefeated Run At The LSU Summer Tournament
Houston traveled to Baton Rouge this past weekend to compete in the LSU 7-on-7 summer camp. He orchestrated an undefeated run for the Evangel Eagles, capturing the tournament championship while impressing those in attendance...including his future coaches at LSU. The victory showcased his ability to rapidly read defensive coverages, even if it was just a 7-on-7 environment.
The performance took place directly in front of new LSU Head Coach Lane Kiffin. Houston even played against Baton Rouge's U High squad, a team featuring Kiffin's son Knox, which means the Tigers leader was watching the matchup closely.
Both players displayed strong passing skills during the showcase matchup.
Securing The Future Of The Tigers Offense
The Shreveport native originally pledged to the Tigers in September of 2025 during the Brian Kelly era. Despite the subsequent coaching changes, Houston has maintained a strong commitment to the current staff in Baton Rouge. Several other top programs have attempted to sway his decision...without success.
He will complete his senior season at Evangel this fall before officially signing with Kiffin's 2027 recruiting class in December. Recruiting analysts predict he will immediately compete for playing time once he steps foot inside Death Valley next year. That early enrollment strategy could secure a high spot on the depth chart.
