The Shreveport City Council could not make a decision on who should be appointed to serve as an interim member of the council to represent District E in southwest Shreveport.

The vote was deadlocked 3-3 with Durwood Hendricks and Matt Kay each getting 3 votes.

The City Charter says if the council can not reach a majority, the Governor will make the appointment.

How Did the Councilmembers Vote?

In round one of the voting, Councilmen John Nickelson and Grayson Boucher voted for fellow Republican Matt Kay. Councilwoman LeVette Fuller voted for Independent Jon Glover while Councilmembers Tabitha Taylor, Jerry Bowman and James Green voted for Independent Durwood Hendricks. The 3 votes was not enough for a majority, so the council re-voted and only considered Hendricks and Kay.

This seat became vacant last month when James Flurry moved out of southwest Shreveport and moved into a townhouse in southeast Shreveport which is outside of district E. He resigned from the council shortly after making the move.

Shortly before the council vote, Alvin Oliver withdrew his name from consideration and asked the council to support Hendricks.

The Governor could appoint anyone who lives in the district to fill the unexpired term.
