There are several events happening in Shreveport-Bossier to honor our military veterans this year for Veterans Day, which falls on Monday, November 11. Here are a few local events we know about right now. This list will be updated with more as they're confirmed.

    Veterans Week Proclamation

    The Veterans Celebration Committee and four local governing bodies will proclaim Veterans Week on October 29. A joint proclamation will be signed at 9 a.m. in the Bossier City Council Chambers. The purpose is to honor the many brave men and women who have fought to protect the nation's freedom.

    The Veterans Day Parade and other celebrations will be held Sunday, November 10, from 2-3 p.m., on the state fairgrounds.

    Captain Shreve Flag Ceremony

    Captain Shreve High School's student council and color guard have a flag ceremony planned. Those who have served or are serving in the military can either bring their military ID or wear something identifying themselves as veterans and get in free.

    The ceremony is being held November 8 at 6:45 at Lee Hedges Stadium.

    LSUS Commemorative Ceremony

    LSU Shreveport is honoring those who have served with its annual Veterans Day commemorative program at the flagpole in the center of campus. It's dedicated to all prisoners of war and those still missing in action, and will feature Retired Army Major Ronald Chatelain as the guest speaker. Chatelain served two tours in Vietnam and has earned medals, including the Army's second-highest award of Valor, the Distinguished Service Cross and five Purple Heart medals.

    The ceremony starts at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 11.

    BPCC Veterans Commemoration

    Bossier Parish Community College is holding its annual Veterans Day Commemoration at 11 a.m. Friday, November 8th, in Building F-Room 203 on the BPCC campus. Lt. Col. LaDaryl Franklin will be the featured guest. He's the Professor of Military Science and Battalion Commander for the Senior Reserve Officer Training Corps (SROTC) Program at Grambling State University, which includes Louisiana Tech and the University of Louisiana-Monroe campuses.

    The program, organized by BPCC's Office of Diversity and Multicultural Relations, will also include the BPCC Gospel Choir and Northwood High School's Army Junior ROTC, who will conduct the presentation of colors.
