Should Louisiana Legalize Sports Gambling?

Ronnie Jones, chairman of Louisiana's Gaming Control Board, talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty about the possibility of the legislature okaying proposals to legalize sports gambling in the state.

Jones tells KEEL listeners about the currently proposes legislation, one of which would allow sports gambling only at designated areas to be set up at the state's horse racetracks, but adds, "the details about where it would be permitted has yet to be decided."

Jones also discusses effect the case currently before the Supreme Court which could legalize sports gaming in New Jersey will have on any move by Louisiana lawmakers. The chairman points out that the SPOTUS decision could open up sports gaming to all sports gaming to all states interested, or the Garden State alone.

Jones also makes the point that the legalization of sports gaming would, "divert that money back into the legitimate market where it can be taxed."
