Science Says that It Is Okay to Feel Anxiety at Work
I have been seeing my therapist for about two months now. I started going to help combat my anxiety and stress. I would have panic attacks, and it was getting to the point where it was messing up my productivity at work. After long thought and realizing that I can't fix myself I decided to see a therapist. It has been going great. I am not saying I am 100% cured. I still have days that I struggle, but I am taking it a day at a time.
However, Huffington Post says in an article about stress and work that “Most individuals operate with some anxiety at all times in order to be successful." This was a quote from Kate Cummins, a California-based clinical psychologist working at Stanford University. This stress that they are referring to explained by the emotions and nerves you have before a big meeting, a presentation, or a serious talk with the boss.
So there is a way that stress can be helpful in the work place, but when it messes with your productivity that is when you need to reset and look at the situation as a whole. My therapist calls this "pushing rational thought". This is where you ask yourself "What is the problem?" and then "How can I work to the solution?" instead of letting the stress take over.
So in a way stress is healthy and a natural reaction, but know when it becomes too much and it takes over then that is where the problem lies.
