Saints Wild Playoff Scenario: Who Dat Believe in Miracles?
True Saints fans believe in miracles. As part of the Who Dat Nation, I once believed that it would take a miracle for the Black and Gold to win a Superbowl. Well, that miracle happened. So, let's make a wish and see what kind of miracle the Saints would need to make the playoffs.
First off, the fact that the Saints, at 6-8 on the season, still are not eliminated from playoff contention is a miracle in and of itself. Here's what the Saints need to have happen to make the playoffs...
- Saints need to win out. That means a victory over the Cowboys on Sunday and a win against Carolina in the final regular season game. That would give the Saints an 8-8 record to end the Bounty-gate torn season.
- Saints need St. Louis to lose one of their final two remaining games. They could lose at Tampa or at Seattle. Doesn't matter to a Who-Dat.
- Saints need Minnesota to lose at Houston. (Sunday at noon)
- Saints need Chicago to lose at Arizona. (Sunday at 3:25p)
- Saints need Giants to lose at Baltimore. (Sunday at 3:25p)
- Dallas loses at Washington. (Dec. 30th at noon)
- Minnesota loses at home to Green Bay. (Dec. 30th at noon)
- Chicago loses at Detroit. (Dec. 30th at noon)
- Finally, if all that stuff happens... the Saints will need the defending Superbowl champion New York Giants to lose at home against the lowly, depleted, season-can't end-soon-enough-for-us crying Philadelphia Eagles. (Dec. 30th at noon.)
There you have it. The miracle scenario that would give the Saints a five-way-tie for the NFC's 6th playoff spot at 8-8 with the Cowboys, Giants, Vikings and Bears... and the Saints would own the tiebreaker.
Hey, stranger things have happened... wait, No they haven't!
