Joe Lombardi, grandson of legendary NFL coach Vince Lombardi, joined the Saints staff as an offensive assistant in 2007. Serving as the quarterbacks coach from 2009 until today, Lombardi helped Drew Brees throw for 5,000+ yards four times, including the last three seasons. He was a hot candidate for offensive coordinator openings, and today, he accepted an offer.

Lombardi will run the Detroit Lions offense, accepting their offensive coordinator vacancy today, as first reported by espn.com.

New Lions head coach Jim Caldwell has called plays most of his coaching career. It's unknown whether or no he'll give Lombardi play-calling duties.

In Detroit, Lombardi will be reunited with running back Reggie Bush, as well as work with quarterback Matthew Stafford, and All-Pro wide receiver Calvin Johnson.
