Saints QB Drew Brees Donates $250K To Build A New School

The Saints signal-caller Drew Brees has been very charitable over his time in the NFL and has absolutely made it a priority. He's participated in countless fundraisers, multiple USO Tours overseas, and has given donations and money to organizations that are in need.

With the latest contribution, Brees decided to help take care of a local New Orleans school; per Rod Walker of the Advocate. What did Brees donate? How about $250K that'll be used to help build the KIPP Believe School in Gentilly, New Orleans. KIPP Believe is a charter school which services 750 students from the grades of kindergarten through eighth grade. The campus opened in April and ended up costing a grand total of $26M.

In a conversation Brees had with Walker he said, “It’s the beacon of hope mentality, you go into an area that otherwise didn’t have any hope and transform it. It not only gave hope within, but it lets everyone else around it know what’s possible.”

The school in Gentilly is located on the shores of Lake Pontchartrain which isn’t far from the Mississippi River. Why is that important because it's in a major flood zone where Hurricane Katrina hit the city in 2005. There were 410 public-housing units that people relied upon at that time which include many children. The area is low-income and had troubles in recovering. However, the developers of KIPP Believe are optimistic that this will be an institution that'll pay long term benefits to the area for generations.
