An AP report confirms that an MRI shows New Orleans Saints newly acquired linebacker Victor Butler has a torn ACL. The former Cowboy will visit noted surgeon Dr. James Andrews next week for a second opinion.

Saints coaches and staff are not commenting on the injury. Butler signed a two year deal with the Saints this offseason.

At this point, the best case scenario may be that Butler starts the season on Injured Reserve, but can make it back late in the season... similar to how the Baltimore Ravens handled Ray Lewis' injury last season.

Bad News out of Saints Camp… linebacker Victor Butler tore his ACL at today’s OTA in Metarie. Butler is one of the Saints' biggest off-season acquisitions, coming over from Dallas to play in Rob Ryan’s 3-4 scheme.

Butler injured his knee on a collision with Mark Ingram.  The four year veteran was expected to the Saints top pass rusher this season.
