The Saints have extended and re-structured the contract of Safety Roman Harper.  The move helps New Orleans create even more space under the 2013 NFL Salary Cap.

Harper had been scheduled to have a $7.15 million cap figure for this year. But the Saints trimmed that number to $3.66 million. They did that by reducing Harper’s base salary from $5.25 million to $840,000. But the Saints helped cushion the blow by giving Harper a $2.91 million signing bonus.

The Saints also lowered Harper’s 2014 cap figure from $7.9 million to $5.87 million by cutting his base salary from $6 million to $2.35 million.

Harper’s previous contract was scheduled to end after the 2014 season, but the Saints added another year to the new deal. Harper is scheduled to make $2.7 million in base salary in 2015 and he also can collect a $650,000 roster bonus and a $150,000 workout bonus. Harper’s 2015 cap figure is scheduled to be $4.47 million.

The Saints now are $5.185 million under the 2013 cap.
