Here’s Why The Saints Can Beat San Francisco In Their Week 2 Matchup
Before the NFL Draft, New Orleans Saints fans seemed to have a little hope for this year. There was speculation that they could take a top quarterback in the draft, and could put them in a strong position with their new Head Coach.
That new Head Coach is Kellen Moore, a former NFL quarterback, who just won the Super Bowl as the Offensive Coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles. Moore was a hot coaching prospect, and is regarded as an offensive genius.
That was all before the draft. Because when the Saints took quarterback Tyler Shough from Louisville in the second round, a lot of Saints fans went from "hopeful" to "we won't win a game" really quick.
Are The New Orleans Saints Tanking On Purpose?
There were a lot of people who started to believe the Saints were intentionally building a bad team. The conspiracy is that the Saints want to lose as much as possible, to get the highest draft pick they can in 2026. With a lot of that attention on current Texas quarterback Arch Manning.

The logic is that if Arch is as good as the rest of his family, he will be worth the top pick, and the Saints will want it.
Now The Saints Don't Look As Bad
That theory might be falling apart though. In their week 1 game, the Saints kept up with the Arizona Cardinals. Actually had a chance to tie or win the game in the final drive. To be completely fair to them, the had the touchdown catch on that drive, if not for a great play from Arizona's defense.
The Saints offense wasn't all there, but there were flashes. If they can put together some scoring drives, their defense is good enough to keep them in most games.
Can The Saints Beat The 49ers In Week 2?
Now, a Saints team that might have a little confidence after playing better than expected in Week 1 have an injured San Francisco team flying to New Orleans. The 49ers have injuries all over their offense, from quarterback Brock Purdy, to their best offensive lineman Trent Williams, and even one of the best tight ends in the game...George Kittle. All of these stars are hurt right now, and likely won't be playing in New Orleans.

That means Mac Jones will have to start at quarterback for the 49ers, and he won't have the full offensive line, or pass catching options, available to him.
If Saints defensive lineman like Cam Jordan and Carl Granderson can get to Jones, it will be a long day for the 49ers offense. Meaning the defense will probably hold the key to winning. Because if the Saints can get just a couple touchdowns, maybe from their best offensive player Alvin Kamara, that defense can probably hold up a win.
