Could a former LSU defensive coordinator soon be making a return to Baton Rouge?

According to FootballScoop, there's a chance of that happening, as the site reports that Youngstown St. head coach Bo Pelini, who served as the defensive coordinator at LSU for three seasons (2005-2007), is a strong candidate to fill the Tigers' vacant defensive coordinator position.

LSU is looking to replace former defensive coordinator Dave Aranda, who left to become the new head coach at Baylor.

Pelini was Les Miles' defensive coordinator in 2007 when LSU went on to defeat the Ohio St. in the BCS National Championship Game, 38-24.

The 52-year Pelini left LSU to become the head coach at Nebraska from 2008-2014, compiling an overall record of 66-27 over seven years.

Over the past five seasons, Pelini has served as the head coach at Youngstown St., guiding the Penguins to an overall mark of 33-28.

A native of Youngstown, Ohio, Pelini has also served as an assistant coach in the NFL, working for the San Francisco 49ers (1994-1996), New England Patriots (1997-1999), and Green Bay Packers (2000-2002).
