Northwestern State Lady Demons will receive the Team Academic Award for the 2012-13 season for the second year in a row from the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

The award honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

Lady Demon co-head coach Hugh Hernesman said, "We're extremely proud of our student-athletes to bring home this award once again. Every season our team GPA has risen, along with our performance on the court, which does not come without a large amount of effort from every single person on this team."

The Lady Demons had a 3.49 GPA overall and named 12 members to the Fall 2012 SLC Commissioner's honor roll. Among those with 4.0 averages were Jessica Guittierrez and Mackenzie Neely. The AVCA Team Academic Award is now one of the AVCA's fastest growing awards programs.
