As part of the $40 Million new plan to keep New Orleans safer bars will now have to close their doors at 3am. Patrons will still be allowed to go in and out, but the doors will now have to be closed.

With Mardi Gras and the NBA All-Star game approaching this new law will take many by surprise. WWL reports Gov. Edwards said 173 additional uniformed State Police officers would be in the city for the All-Star weekend, and 165 additional officers would be in town the next weekend prior to Mardi Gras.

In addition to the new bar law New Orleans will be adding 300+ patrol cars officers can bring home with them, extra street lighting, infrared cameras,  license plate readers at more than 100 intersections to help track criminals and a OPSO Mobile Booking unit used for large events.

"When you go on Bourbon Street, everything you do will be seen," said Mayor Mitch Landrieu. "Do I need to let that sink in?"

Honestly I think all these are great steps to make one of my favorite cities safer!
