They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder, and I believe it's true - especially when it comes to Mardi Gras.  For the past 2 years, we've had to abstain from the usual rowdy revelry that comes with the celebration that culminates on Fat Tuesday, which leads to  Ash Wednesday, Lent, and eventually Easter.  Fingers crossed and the good lord willing, 2022 is the year we break that sad streak.

This Saturday in Shreveport, the floats will roll, the beads will fly, and if everything goes according to plan - the bons temps will hopefully rouler this weekend with the mighty Krewe of Sobek's Mardi Gras parade set to celebrate through Queensborough this Saturday starting at 1 p.m.  This year, Sobek is taking us back to our roots with their "Down on Da Bayou!" theme.

The detail I absolutely love the most is the grand marshal selection for this celebration. In years past, some sort of celebrity has been graced with the honor of being named the Grand Marshal of the parade.  This year, that honor goes to all of the tireless and heroic healthcare and front line workers who fought so hard and sacrificed so much for their fellow an through this entire COVID-19 pandemic.

According to a report from KTBS, the parade will kick off at Fair Grounds Field. From there, the party will continue down Greenwood Road headed west, then it will head north on Mertis Avenue to Lakeshore Drive, then head south on Missouri Avenue an back to Fair Grounds Field.  This year, Douglas Sanders and Janet Armand will be serving as king and queen.
