Both LSU Players Drafted Into WNBA Cut Hours After First Games
The LSU Women's Basketball program had an amazing season this past year under Head Coach Kim Mulkey. The team completed the incredible turnaround under Mulkey, and won the National Championship in her second year as coach.
But it wasn't all Kim Mulkey; she had some great players...
Two of those players, Forward LaDazhia Williams and Guard Alexis Morris, were both selected in the WNBA Draft after the championship game. The future looked bright for their WNBA careers, and for the prestige they would bring to the LSU Women's program.
But just hours after their first WBNA preseason games, both Williams and Morris were cut from those teams. Those same teams that just went through all of the pageantry and hype to draft them in the first 25 picks of the draft, cut them within hours of their first minutes of action.
Williams was cut by Indiana hours after her Indiana team lost to Chicago 81-56 in their first preseason game. She scored 2 points in four minutes of game time against Chicago.
In Morris' first exhibition game, she scored 2 points, snagged 4 rebounds, and played 8 minutes for Connecticut. The Sun beat the New York Liberty in the game 63-57. Then Morris was promptly cut from the team.
Morris sent out a Tweet almost right away, confirming she was waived. But also followed it up with a Tweet expressing how she felt about the situation...
Not only were Morris and Williams selected in the first 22 picks of the WNBA Draft, Morris was even among the 15 players who were invited to attend the draft in-person.
