Aaron Nola pitched eight strong innings to earn the win, as LSU defeated the University of Louisiana-Monroe 4-1 Friday night in a opening round game at the Baton Rouge regional of the NCAA baseball tournament.

The Tigers advanced to the winner's bracket of the double-elimination tourney, where they will play Oregon State Saturday night at 7:00. You can hear the game LIVE on AM-1130 The Ticket. Oregon St. was a 2-1 winner over Belmont in Friday's other first-round game.

Nola gave up four hits and struck out 10 Warhawk batters while throwing eight innings and 118 pitches. Shreveporter and former Byrd Yellow Jacket Chris Cotton closed out the game with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

The game, played before a Alex Box Stadium crowd of 9,902, was tied at 1 going into the seventh inning. However, LSU scored three runs in their half of the inning.

Randy Ziegler took the loss for ULM. A former LSU pitcher, Ziegler went 6 1/3 innings, giving up five hits and striking out three.

ULM will play Belmont at 2pm Saturday in a elimination game.
