So far, LSU has shown it doesn’t need star power on offense to do the job.

Actually, the #2 ranked LSU Tigers don't seem to need much offense because of their dominant defense.

While playing Oregon’s flashy offense, LSU’s defense gave up 335 total yards, but only allowed 95 on the ground. The Tigers scored a defensive touchdown and forced four turnovers. Then last week, the Tigers allowed just 95 yards, with 4 rushing against Northwestern State.

The Tigers have one of the fastest, most athletic defenses in college football.

LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne said “We know what we can do as a team,” Claiborne added, “As a defense, we come out, we fly around and we make plays.”

Playing very physical up front has been a major factor for the Tigers’ success. Those rushing numbers can be tough for offensive coaches to cope with, but LSU’s linemen take pride in their carnage.

Last year, the Tigers surrendered only 307 offensive yards each game, and generated 341 of its own. And in 2008, the Tigers won the national championship with a defense that allowed 288 yards a game.
