In basketball tournament action yesterday,   the LSU Tigers were way ahead of  Northwestern in the first period,   in fact at the half,  LSU was up by nine.  The Tigers lost the  lead in the second half and then came back to get within one point with 48 seconds to play.  The final score was Northwestern on top  88-82.

Freshman Johnny O'Bryant III led LSU with 21 points and eight rebounds. The 6-9 O'Bryant had a midcourt steal for a breakaway basket,  blocked John Shurna's shot, then made two foul shots to cut Northwestern's lead to 81-79. When Ralston Turner hit a 3-pointer moments later,  LSU had closed within a point.

That's when Northwestern's  Dave  Sobelewski struck with his second 3-pointer of the game.  O'Bryant was called for traveling on LSU's next possession, and Northwestern held on for the win.

Drew Crawford had 17 points, all in the second half, and Sobelewski added 10 points and six assists for the Wildcats.

LSU had four players in double figures.  Andre Stringer had 15 points, Anthony Hickey 11 and Justin Hamilton 10.

LSU's  Anthony Hickey, a freshman starting his third game, had 11 points and three of LSU's six steals in the first half, with LSU leading 41-32 at the break. O'Bryant had eight points and six rebounds.

The fighting Tigers  now take on Western Kentucky this morning with pre game at 11:30 and tip off at noon.   And you can hear all the hoop action on your home for the LSU Tigers,  AM 1130,  KWKH.
