Longtime Byrd Yellow Jackets baseball coach Al Cantwell has made the transition from high school to college.

On Wednesday, the move was official, Al Cantwell will be the new leader of the LSU-Shreveport Pilots baseball squad.

It was a shock to many when news of Coach Rocke Musgraves announcement to leave LSU-Shreveport for a head coaching position in Idaho.

But, Pilots' Athletic Director Chad McDowell knew he had to get to work. And, after only two weeks, McDowell has found his man in Cantwell.

Since the 2007 season, Cantwell has been the coach of the Byrd Yellow Jackets and has led the program to the second highest amount of wins in school history with a record of 135-81.

Cantwell is no stranger to the LSUS Pilots. He played at Pilot Field from 2000-2002, and was also on the coaching staff when the Pilots first reached the NAIA World Series in 2003.
