The LSU Tigers are adding a former Division I head coach to their coaching staff.

Kevin Nickelberry, who served as the head coach for the Howard Bison for the previous nine seasons, was named as assistant to the head coach Will Wade on Tuesday.

Nickelberry, who was a Clemson assistant coach when Wade was a student-manager in the early 2000s, guided Howard to an overall record of 94-194, before stepping down in March.

The 54-year-old Nickelberry also was the head coach at Hampton from 2006-09, while serving as an assistant coach at Howard, Monmouth, Holy Cross, Charlotte and Clemson.
