SHREVEPORT, LA-    Shreveport police Arrest woman for Cruelty to the Infirm: 17-Year-Old Found Malnourished in Area Hospital

In an incident that underscores the importance of vigilance in safeguarding the vulnerable, Shreveport Police responded to a welfare concern on March 10th at one of our area hospitals. A 17-year-old child, who arrived at the hospital severely malnourished and weighing a mere 53 pounds, has prompted action of the Shreveport Police Department Juvenile Detectives.

The victim, identified as a mentally handicapped individual, was discovered in a state of extreme deprivation. Upon thorough investigation, authorities have apprehended 40-year-old Tonya Johns in connection with this case. Johns faces one count of cruelty to the infirm.

As this investigation progresses, we urge anyone with additional information pertaining to this case or similar instances of abuse to come forward and assist authorities in their efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals.
