I used to really resent when college football players wouldn't play in the bowl game the entire team worked so hard to get to.  Now, I only kinda don't like it....  but I get it.  LSU Heisman winning quarterback Jayden Daniels has played his last game for LSU.

In a video announcement, Jayden Daniels said he’s opting out of the ReliaQuest Bowl in Tampa against Wisconsin on New Year’s Day.

“I want to say thank you to everyone who made this happen, but all great things must come to an end,” said Daniels. “I feel better about the state of the program with the quarterback moving forward.”

With Daniels out, Garrett Nussmeier will get the start at QB against the Badgers.

Nussmeier, currently considered the future starting QB for the Tigers has appeared in 17 games at LSU. This will be his first start.

During his freshman season in 2021, he relieved Max Johnson after two series in the Arkansas game and completed 18 of 31 passes for 179 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions.

Nussmeier played the second half in the SEC Championship game in 2022 for an injured Daniels. He completed 15-of-27 passes for 294 yards and an interception. The 294 yards are the most in any half in school history.

By opting out of the bowl game, Daniels can now prepare for the NFL draft as he could be a top-five pick. Daniels says he’ll always have a special place in his heart for Baton Rouge.

“I promise this will not be the last time you’ll see “That Kid” around because this is my second city and my second home and I’m proud to be a California Bayou boy, said Daniels.
