New Michelin Guide of the South Honors 3 Louisiana Restaurants
Big food news for the state of Louisiana. A new guide from the Michelin food review panel is now out. This guide focuses only on the American South. Louisiana is part of this group.
3 restaurants in New Orleans have earned Michelin stars in this guide.
Emeril’s in New Orleans is awarded Two Stars
Emeril’s is the only restaurant in the south to earn this two-star rating on this very first list of American South restaurants. The report says this two star distinction is given when "the personality and talent of the chef are evident in their expertly crafted dishes; their food is refined and inspired.”
Louisiana Restaurants Granted One Star
• Saint-Germain in New Orleans
• Zasu in New Orleans
This report says Saint-Germain is one of those places that fits the old adage of not judging a book by its cover. This is a small spot in the Bywater district which is famous for amazing food. The report says this spot is “a quaint bar where Chefs Blake Aguillard and Trey Smith start the meal with a few pleasant bites. The contemporary tasting kicks into high gear with a griddled cornbread cake smeared with butter aged and cultured in-house.”
The review also praises the restaurant for “refined sauces and bold flavors. Carolina Gold rice with crab and ginger is a winter-proof knockout. Other hits include squab with creamed greens as well as a warm cheese soufflé bolstered by brûléed sugar.”
Zasu is honored for several great dishes. This spot serves American Contemporary cuisine. Chef Sue Zemanick opened this Mid-City restaurant in 2019 and she is no stranger to the New Orleans dining scene. The report says the “menu is tightly edited, featuring a dozen or so dishes focused on seafood and blending local flavors with French techniques. A scallop shell holds two perfectly seared scallops in a Thai chile-lime butter with watermelon radish for a refreshing opener, while tilefish on a bed of Swiss chard, sweet potatoes and beech mushrooms in a beurre blanc is a satisfying main course.”
Dooky Chase in New Orleans is also one of the 50 Bib Gourmand award winners. This honor was given to restaurants with “great food at a great value.”
Another honor in this report names E.J. Lagasse as a “Michelin Young Chef/Culinary Professional Award”. He is the son of famed chef Emeril Lagasse.
