Herbert "Herb" Cobb McDonald first opened an all-you-can-eat restaurant in Las Vegas in 1946. Flyers promoting the buffet said that visitors may indulge in "every possible variety of hot and cold entrees to appease the howling coyote in your innards" for an only $1.  Adjusted for inflation, a dollar meal in 1946 is the same thing as paying $16.85 in 2024.
