What is a Blue Alert and Why is it Issued?

We’ve all heard of Amber Alerts when a child goes missing. Many of us are also familiar with Silver Alerts, issued when an elderly person or someone with a mental condition is missing. But what exactly is a Blue Alert, and how serious is it?

A Blue Alert is as critical as an Amber or Silver Alert. It’s a public notification system used in Texas and across the United States to expedite the apprehension of violent criminals who have killed or seriously injured law enforcement officers. These alerts are designed to mobilize the public and law enforcement quickly.

Blue Alert Issued for Dangerous Fugitive Seth Altman

A Blue Alert was issued for Seth Altman in Hall County on Friday morning. Texas authorities launched a statewide search at 5 a.m., suspecting Altman of shooting Rex Plant, the police chief in the Panhandle town of Memphis, Texas, located about 80 miles southeast of Amarillo.

Seth Altman is considered extremely dangerous. If you know his whereabouts, do not approach him. Instead, contact law enforcement immediately. Authorities urge everyone to stay vigilant and report any information that could lead to his capture.

How You Can Help: Report Any Information Immediately

When a Blue Alert is issued, information about the suspect, including descriptions and vehicle details, is broadcast to the public through various channels such as radio, television, social media, highway signs, and mobile phones. This system works to quickly inform the public of the suspect’s danger and whereabouts.

If you know anything about Seth Altman’s location, law enforcement is pleading for your help. Every detail matters in ensuring the safety of the community. If you see something say something. Call Hall County Sherrif's Office at 806-259-2636.
