I've been blessed on so many occasions, but this year has been an exceptional one as I was blessed with not just one, but two, granddaughters.

And with those blessings have come some responsibilities and some eye opening realizations.  The biggest of those is the need for my wife and I to purchase child car seats.  This things have changed so much since our boys were small that it's almost like we have absolutely no experience at all.

However, most of these car seats are amazingly safe for the little ones now.  I just read an amazing statistic from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Car seats and booster seats offer the best protection for children in the event of a crash and over the past three decades, approximately 9,000 lives have been saved by the use of child restraints.

There is an exception to those numbers though.  That car seat must be the right size and installed correctly in order to provide it's maximum protection.  And according to the NHTSA, three out of four kids are riding around in a car seat improperly installed or it's the wrong size.

So, how do you know if your child is properly secured?

You trust a professional to show you and you can do that this Saturday, September 25, from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm at Caddo Sheriff's Safety Town.

As part of National Seat Check Saturday, the Louisiana State Police will be on site with certified child seat technicians including Troopers, nurses and Fire/EMTs, to inspect car seats, ensure they are properly installed, and answer any questions you might have.

The event is open to the public and it's absolutely free.
