Independence Bowl Star Daniel Jones Drafted by New York Giants
A former Independence Bowl quarterback is now on track to replace another Independence Bowl quarterback.
Tonight, the New York Giants selected Duke quarterback Daniel Jones with the #6 overall pick in the NFL Draft. Putting him firmly in place to take over for Eli Manning at the end of Manning's career.
Jones played in the 2018 Walk On's Independence Bowl, and threw for more than 400 yards and 5 touchdowns, while adding a rushing touchdown for Duke. Back in the day, Eli Manning led his Ole Miss team into Independence Stadium in Shreveport. Now the two quarterbacks can bond over their shared Shreveport experiences while getting ready for the Giants season.
Manning is likely to wrap up his career in the next couple of seasons, giving Jones some time to sit and learn behind the Super Bowl Champion quarterback before having to take over the team.
