Freeze Warning Issued For Shreveport And Most Of Arklatex

In the same area where the temperature topped out over 90 on Saturday, we'll see our first freeze warning of the Fall late tonight/early tomorrow morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, we have a Freeze Warning from 1:00 am to 9:00 am tomorrow (Wednesday, October 19)

A Freeze Warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or likely. These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.

Forecasters are expecting sub-freezing temperatures as low as 28 to 32 degrees for portions of south central and southwest Arkansas, north central and northwest Louisiana, southeast Oklahoma and east and northeast Texas.

The National Weather Service warns that frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. They advise for area residents to take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes, those should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

Additionally, the NWS warns us that there is an elevated fire danger threat today across the entire Four State Region. Very low afternoon relative humidity values and strong north winds will combine to create this elevated fire threat.

So, in spite of the dropping temperatures, if you're outside, probably not a good idea to do any burning.
