Franklin Parish Football Player Dies After Injury In Season Opener
Tyrell Cameron, a 16-year-old at Winnsboro's Franklin Parish High School, died at an area hospital Friday night after being injured during the fourth quarter of his team's season opening game against Sterlington.
Cameron, a sophomore, passed away shortly after he was taken to Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro. The player was hit during a punt return in the fourth quarter. Although the Franklin Parish Sheriff's Office initially said Cameron died of "an undisclosed injury", two Monroe television stations are reporting that the youth suffered a broken neck.
A vigil for Cameron is planned for Saturday night at Franklin Parish High School.
