It has been a long time since the name JaMarcus Russell has been uttered from anyone's mouth.

Since his release from the Oakland Raiders in May 2010, he has been out of the news, until now.

Highlights from JaMarcus Russell's high school career:

Following three seasons out of professional football, former LSU Tigers quarterback JaMarcus Russell is eager to get back on the gridiron.

After having a collegiate career that seemed to promise continued success that would bleed over to the NFL, Russell struggled. He had a record of 7-18 as a quarterback, with 18 touchdowns and 23 interceptions.

Those inside and out the Raiders organization questioned his ability and if he really cared about his job.

After three seasons of mediocrity, the Raiders had enough. They cut Russell in May 2010.

After he was given the pink slip from Oakland, Russell went downhill. In July 2010, Russell was arrested on felony possession of illegally using codeine syrup. While he was not indicted on charges, he became the laughing stock of many.

Russell was eventually getting out of shape. The former 6-foot-6, 265-pound strong quarterback, was now weighing in at a whopping 320 pounds.

Recently, a light bulb brightly shined above Russell's head. He knew himself it was time for a change. He wanted to prove to the very same critics who thought highly of him, and soon were harsh and questioned him, that he is now not going down without a fight.

The past couple of months have been a period of transition for Russell. He told a Yahoo! Sports reporter,

"People don’t know the real you but I want people to know the real me and see what I can do, "People are always saying that I’m a bust. I want show them I’m not. I’m committed to this now.”

He has now been trying to prove himself to others by backing up his words. Russell has been working out with former NFL wide receiver Michael Clayton, former NFL quarterback Jeff Garcia, and Hall of Fame running back Marshall Faulk.

He has even seen a dip in his weight. The former Tigers star has so far dropped 12 pounds.

Russell says,

"It’s going to feel good to go back out there again, I will make this happen.”

Does JaMarcus Russell deserve a second chance? If so, if you owned a football team, would you want him as your quarterback?
