‘Pacific Rim Uprising’ Reveals First Teaser With John Boyega and Shiny New Jaegers
(Extremely Staind voice) It’s been awhile…since we last heard John Boyega’s British accent, so it’s pretty wonderful to hear it again in the first teaser for Pacific Rim Uprising. You can catch a brief sneak peek of the Star Wars actor gearing up to report for duty in the special promo for the upcoming sequel, which debuted online following its premiere earlier today at Comic-Con.
In Pacific Rim Uprising, Boyega plays Jake Pentecost, a name that is undoubtedly familiar to fans of Guillermo del Toro’s film — Jake is the son of Stacker Pentecost, played by Idris Elba in the first Pacific Rim. Little is known about the sequel, which was directed by Steven S. DeKnight (Daredevil), who scrapped del Toro’s original ideas in favor of starting from scratch. The sequel also stars Scott Eastwood, Rinko Kikuchi and Tian Jing, with Charlie Day and Burn Gorman reprising their roles from the previous film.
There’s not a whole lot of actual footage in the first teaser, which is presented as a recruitment video of sorts and gives us a look at some of the new Jaegers. Speaking of which, if you head over to the newly-launched viral site GoJaeger.com, you’ll find images and details for all of the new monster-smashing robots featured in the film. Or you can just check them out below:
Gipsy Avenger: “Gipsy Avenger honors the heroic legacy of her namesake as the flagship leader of the Mark VI fleet. More than just a Jaeger, she is a symbol of hope to millions.”
Bracer Phoenix: “A Mark V brute that can still run with the VI’s, Bracer Phoenix shoots from the chest, with a centrifugal vortex cannon that is as spectacular as it is deadly.”
Saber Athena: “The sleekest and most elegant Jaeger ever created, Saber Athena is the fastest in the fleet, wielding twin blades in hyper-acrobatic combat.”
Titan Redeemer: “Built for brute force and armed with a seismic morningstar, Titan Redeemer is the walking wrecking ball of the new fleet.”
Guardian Bravo: “Designed for combat at range, Guardian Bravo wields the Elec-16 Arc Whip: a proto-metallic successor to the chainsword, and brings a new sophistication to the chainsword’s whiplash move.”
Pacific Rim Uprising hits theaters on February 23, 2018.
