ESPN+ Catches a NSFW ‘Hot Mic’ Moment During the Texas Tech Game
During the fourth quarter of the Texas Tech vs Kansas game, there was an honest assessment of the officiating.
It's between the Ryan Leaf analysis of the Kansas touchdown that made it 33-28 with just over eight minutes to go in the game.
Leaf is talking about the great play that Bean just made, then pauses, almost like it's on purpose for the mic to catch, "These refs f*cking suck."
Here's the magic moment.
I can definitely see how a Texas Tech fan might be upset at the officiating in the game with several big plays being called back, but that play wasn't because of bad officiating.
That's just Jason Bean making a great play.
I did do a little investigating though and got a bit more context.
I'm nothing if not thorough.
As Bean throws the ball to the receiver and he gets knocked out of bounds, the mic also picks up somebody saying, "He's out." If they thought the receiver was out of bounds, they must have been responding to that. The play was reviewed, but the officiating crew let the play stand.
Here's that audio.
Sidenote: How the heck did Texas Tech not sack the quarterback on this play? They have him dead to rights and he pops out and throws a laser to the endzone. Incredible play by him.
Too bad it was in a losing effort.
I do want to go back and watch the ESPN+ broadcast now to see what else we might have missed on the crowd mic.
