Does Your Kid Have Any Idea What Time it Is? [VIDEO]
The future of analog clocks may be in jeopardy simply because children have no idea how to read them.
There's no denying it, we live in a digital age. This digital age means reading digital clocks as well. Clocks like the one on the lock screen of your phone are easy to read. They tell you the exact time and if it is a.m. or p.m. What about analog clocks? These clocks feature a face with various hands (minutes, hour, second) circling round and round. They're not as easy to read but are still a valued way to tell time.
Or are they?
Recently the TODAY Show reported that various schools in the U.K. are removing analog clocks from their classrooms because their students are getting too stressed during tests. Apparently kids stare blankly at those clock faces, unable to register anything significant, and therefore have no idea how much time they have left to finish their test.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but we learned how to read these clocks in school and were even tested on it! It's still a part of the curriculum in schools across America, right? Call me a traditionalist, but if it isn't taught in schools anymore, it should be.
Besides what fun is school if you can't watch that second hand count down the seconds left until the bell rings?
