Mark your calendar for Saturday, March 11 and plan to load up the kids and spend the day at the Cypress Nature Study Center at the Cypress-Black Bayou Recreation Area for "Into The Wild."

“Into the Wild” is a fundraiser for the Cypress Nature Study Center and is your chance to experience all that is offered at the center and give you a chance to reunite them nature.

They'll begin the day with a fishing rodeo for the kids, with prizes in each age group (10 and under; 11-15).  Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Agent Chad Moore will be there with the DWLF fishing trailer to provide poles to the kids who don't bring one and will assist with the fishing.

Additionally, there are 4.5 miles of hiking trails that families can hike on during this time.  The Louisiana Society of Animal Artists will be selling their Louisiana themed artwork and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Nature Center.  The festival will offer food, demonstrations, multi-media artists, children’s hands-on wildlife discovery, and face painting.

Admission is $2.00 per person and donations to the Nature Center are accepted.

Cypress Nature Study Center is a Bossier Parish School Board Center located in Cypress Black Bayou Recreation Area.  Founded in 1977 as a preserve for nature study, the center is devoted to celebrating and exploring life through nature by sharing the excitement and fun of our natural world.

The Nature Center's multi-use facility includes a large Interpretive Center, classroom, animal lab, where you will see fish, crawfish, turtles and alligators. The education room has animal mounts ranging from the Louisiana Black Bear to the Sandhill Crain and a large number of migratory waterfowl. The Nature Center provides educational programs and services to students, teachers, scouts, and families throughout northwest Louisiana, southwestern Arkansas, and east Texas.

The center provides so much to so many, but because the Nature Center does not house students at their facility, they are ineligible for grants that regular schools and classroom teachers are eligible for.  And because they need to make some much needed updates to the Nature Center, they're holding this fundraiser.
