On Thursday, the Boston Red Sox announced they've signed former Houston Astros pitcher Collin McHugh to a contract for the 2020 season.

McHugh was with the Houston Astros organization since 2014. In his years with Houston, he compiled a 58-35 record with a 3.63 ERA in over 750 innings pitched for the Astros.

He made eight starts in 2019 in addition to 27 relief appearances, with a 4.70 ERA for the year. He was better as a reliever in 2019, as he went just 3-4 with an unsightly 6.37 ERA in eight starts.

With Chris Sale missing the start of the season due to and elbow injury, the Red Sox are scrambling for options to help their pitching situation. If Collin McHugh can be a consistent presence for the Red Sox this season, it could be a bright spot in an otherwise dark season for Boston.
